Where Classic Design Meets Real Life
A Custom Home in Davidson Built for Real Family Life
In Davidson, North Carolina, a family of four—two kids, two golden retrievers, and a lot of daily activity—wanted a home that felt timeless but still worked for the way they actually live. We helped them bring that idea to life, and the result is a custom traditional home that’s equal parts beautiful and practical.
From the outside, it’s exactly what you’d hope for in a classic Southern home: white brick, black shutters, and a big covered front porch that practically invites you to sit down and stay awhile. It fits right into the wooded setting in Davidson, but still feels fresh and thoughtfully designed.
A Main Floor That Brings Everyone Together
Inside, the house opens up right away into a big, airy floorplan. Nothing feels boxed off or closed in—everything flows, which is perfect for a busy household with kids and dogs constantly moving through the space.
The living room is really the heart of it all. The coffered ceilings give it a bit of character without feeling fussy, and the fireplace anchors the room in a way that makes you want to settle in. On both sides, built-ins add storage and symmetry, but also a place for books, photos, and the little things that make a house feel lived in. There’s plenty of seating too, so it’s clearly a space meant for movie nights, holiday gatherings, or just hanging out at the end of the day.
Arched entryways throughout the main level add a nice architectural touch—they quietly connect spaces without breaking up the openness.
A Kitchen That’s Meant to Be Used
The kitchen is one of those spaces that doesn’t just look good—it works hard.
It has warm white shaker cabinets that keep things clean and classic, and a massive island topped with marble that pretty much becomes the center of the house. It’s where breakfast happens, where kids do homework, where people naturally gather while dinner’s being made.
It all flows right into the living area, so no one feels cut off from what’s going on. It’s very much a “cook, talk, hang out, repeat” kind of setup.
Indoor–Outdoor Living That Actually Gets Used
Just off the living room, glass sliding doors open up to a screened-in porch that might end up being everyone’s favorite space.
There’s a white brick fireplace with a mantel and a TV, so it works just as well for cozy fall nights as it does for summer evenings with the doors open. The porch overlooks a private wooded backyard, which gives the whole space a calm, tucked-away feel.
And if you have golden retrievers, this is basically their dream setup too—safe, shaded, and full of space to stretch out.
A Layout That Makes Daily Life Easier
The primary bedroom sits on the main floor, which is a huge win for everyday convenience. It keeps the homeowners close to everything while still feeling private.
Upstairs, there are three additional bedrooms plus a loft. The loft is one of those flexible spaces that can evolve over time—playroom, study space, or just a second hangout zone as the kids get older.
Above the two-car garage, there’s also a guest suite with its own kitchenette. It’s perfect for visiting family or long stays where guests can feel totally independent.
Little Moments That Make It Fun
One of the standout details is the powder room downstairs. It’s small, but it has personality—bold, punchy wallpaper that adds a fun surprise moment when you walk in. It’s a nice reminder that not every space has to be neutral or serious.
A Home That Grows With the Family
At the end of the day, this home works because it was designed around real life. It’s open where it should be, cozy where it matters, and flexible enough to change as the family grows.
